Safety Tips for Jobseekers

Most employers on Mustakbil are genuine, professional, and respectful of your time. If something feels off — slow down. Trust your instincts. A real job is happy to wait while you verify.

Common pay-to-apply scams

• Training, certification, or onboarding fees — “Pay USD X for our required training kit.”
• Interview, test, or processing fees — “Submit your interview fee to confirm your slot.”
• “Refundable” deposits — Any deposit “refunded on joining” is a scam.
• CV / resume rewriting fees — A real hiring manager hires the person, not a paid resume service.
• Visa, immigration, or relocation prepayments — Genuine overseas employers handle this themselves or via licensed partners.
• Mystery shopper, money-transfer, or cheque-processing roles — These almost always launder stolen funds through your bank.

Most scams trigger more than one of these. If you spot two or more, walk away and report the job.

• Too good to be true — extremely high salary for vague duties, “work from home” with no experience, “earn lakhs weekly” promises.
• Urgency pressure — “Reply in 1 hour or lose the offer,” “Hired on the spot,” “Don't tell anyone yet.”
• Free email domains for senior roles — HR claiming to be from a known company but using a personal Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail address.
• No real company footprint — no website, no public team, no LinkedIn, no registered office.
• Job offered without a proper interview — a real role involves real conversations.
• Vague job description — “Various tasks”, “you'll learn on the job”, no clear duties or skills.
• Asks for sensitive documents up front — passport scans, ID card photos, bank statements, or photos of you holding ID before any interview.
• Demands one-time passwords (OTPs) or wallet PINs — no legitimate employer ever needs this.
• Asks you to move the conversation to WhatsApp / Telegram immediately — see the messaging section below.
• Promises a job in exchange for a “small” payment — this is the textbook fee scam.

• Do not share bank account numbers, card numbers, CVV, mobile-wallet PINs, or one-time passwords with any employer or recruiter.
• Do not send copies of CNIC / passport / driving licence until you have verified the employer is real and the offer is genuine.
• Hide sensitive numbers (CNIC, passport number) in any document you share early in the process.
• Use a strong, unique password for your Mustakbil account, and turn on two-factor authentication where available.
• Never reuse the same password across job sites and your email — your email is the master key to every other account.
• Review your resume before publishing it. Avoid posting your home address, full national ID number, or photos of family members.

Before agreeing to an in-person interview:

• Verify the company exists — search the website, look for a real office address, check for a tax / registration number where applicable.
• Search the company name plus words like “scam”, “review”, or “experience” to see what previous applicants have said.
• Interviews should happen at the company's registered office or a clearly identified branch, during business hours. Be very cautious of interviews at hotel rooms, residences, late-night meetings, or remote locations.
• Tell a trusted friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to return.
• Carry only what you need. Keep digital copies of your documents — do not hand over originals.
• If you feel unsafe at any point, leave. A real employer will respect that.

• Real online interviews use video and a real face — be cautious if the interviewer always keeps the camera off or makes excuses.
• Be cautious of interviews conducted entirely via text chat for senior, technical, or salaried roles.
• Never install unfamiliar “interview apps”, remote-desktop tools, or screen-share software outside well-known providers, especially if asked to grant unusual permissions.
• Do not perform unpaid “tasks” that produce real, usable work for the employer (delivering live designs, code shipped to production, real customer outreach) before any contract or offer.
• If you are sent an offer letter without an interview, treat it as suspicious until verified.

Many genuine employers do continue the conversation on email, phone, or messaging apps once you have applied. That alone is not a red flag. But pay attention to how they move you off-platform.

• Be cautious if the very first message is “Add me on WhatsApp / Telegram” with no real recruiter introduction.
• Verify the phone number belongs to the company before sharing anything sensitive — call back on a number published on the company's official website.
• Keep important conversations (offer terms, salary discussions, role confirmations) in writing — email is best.
• If a recruiter pressures you to delete messages, to “keep this confidential”, or to avoid mentioning the offer to others, that is a warning sign.

• Use a long, unique password — at least 12 characters, mixing letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Turn on two-factor authentication in your account settings where available.
• Review the email address and phone number on your account from time to time and update them if you change.
• Sign in only on devices you trust. Avoid signing in on shared / public computers.
• If you sign in with Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Microsoft, keep that account secure too — it is now a door into your Mustakbil profile.
• If you suspect your account has been accessed by someone else, change your password immediately and email support@mustakbil.com.

Where you have lost money or shared sensitive personal information, you should also consider reporting to your local cybercrime or consumer protection authority.
