Microbiologist

Clinical microbiologists generally need at least a bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, D Pharm or related field.

Equivalent education and experience may be an acceptable alternative.

In addition to the required education, clinical microbiologists must also have a thorough knowledge of how to conduct lab tests and use lab equipment.

An understanding of laws and regulations related to the medical industry.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.

Maintain stock cultures for testing.

May receive and track laboratory samples.

Database result entry and review.

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.

May receive laboratory supplies and chemicals and maintains stock and inventory control.

Assist in the maintenance and calibration and/or certifications of laboratory equipment.

Prepares samples for shipment to an outside contract laboratory for microbiological testing.

Performs related support activities and duties as assigned.
