Job Description

CIMMYT requires services of energetic candidate able to Assist the scientists in the design and application of research projects, as well as assist in the design, analyze and apply research techniques of higher complexity related to the project assigned to the Unit. Assist in the supervision of staff activities supporting the section, in order to contribute to meeting the unit's research objectives.

  1. Develop, propose and implement research techniques and procedures for the cultivation and improvement of the materials assigned to the Unit.
  2. Collaborate in the design, the research and the implementation of techniques for field measurements with high-tech equipment.
  3. Collaborate in the field/laboratory activities as assigned and report abnormal situations that arise in the development of the project assigned.
  4. Make periodic reports and tables that allow the program scientists to track their projects. Assist in writing articles that are published by the Unit.
  5. Participate in the publication of research results through annual reports, presentations and publications.
  6. Contribute to the training and updating of knowledge and research techniques, and keep updated on new research techniques or processes.
  7. Visit and supervise other CIMMYT field trials and/or research fields of collaborators.
  8. Take part in taking care of scientists and visitors to the Unit and prepare and conduct field trips with researchers and visiting scientists of the Centre.
  9. Conduct, if needed, field surveys and interviews with farmers, and analyze this information, for inclusion in CIMMYT publications.
  10. Keep a check on inventories of products and materials used and request a replacement when required.
  11. Assist in the development and deployment of maize varieties with enhanced tolerance to drought and heat stress as well as multiple biotic stresses predominant in Pakistan
  12. Assist in the development and deployment of bio fortified maize in Pakistan
  13. Assist in organizing and conducting multi location field trials in collaboration with partners in Pakistan
  14. Work with public and private sector partners to support early generation seed production of maize varieties
  15. Contribute to collaborative maize improvement and seed systems activities under the overall AIP objectives
  16. Contribute in the capacity building activities of public and private partners in relation to maize
  17. Ensure/enhance effective networking with partners in Pakistan
