What you'll be doing

We are building an early-stage 3D ecommerce visualization product focused on helping online stores showcase products interactively in the browser. The platform enables merchants to display web-ready 3D models directly on their storefronts, allowing customers to rotate, zoom, and inspect products before purchasing.

Our current focus is on creating high-quality realtime 3D assets for physical products such as footwear, furniture, accessories, and consumer goods. We are working with a small number of active clients while refining our internal production pipeline and delivery standards.

We are looking for a 3D Product Designer to help us scale this workflow and establish consistent production-quality standards for web-ready assets.

You will be responsible for creating production-quality 3D models of physical products from client-provided photos. Every model you deliver goes live on a real ecommerce store and is seen by real customers. Quality, accuracy and technical correctness are non-negotiable.

Your day-to-day:

  • Create PBR 3D models from product photos in Blender and Substance Painter
  • Export web-optimised GLB files with Draco compression
  • Pack and optimise textures (BaseColor, Normal, ORM) within size budgets
  • Test all models in gltf-viewer.donmccurdy.com and Three.js editor before delivery
  • Collaborate directly with the founder on quality standards and client feedback
  • Help establish and improve the production pipeline as we scale

What we're looking for

Requirements

Must have:

  • Proficiency in Blender — modelling, UV unwrapping, baking, GLB export
  • Proficiency in Substance Painter — PBR texturing, ORM map packing
  • Experience creating product 3D models — shoes, furniture, accessories or similar
  • Understanding of real-time PBR workflows — not just offline rendering
  • Ability to create clean topology optimised for web (10K–50K triangles)
  • Familiarity with glTF/GLB format and Draco mesh compression
  • Ability to match a reference product accurately from photos

Good to have:

  • Experience testing models in Three.js or other WebGL viewers
  • Knowledge of texture atlasing and UV efficiency
  • Experience with retopology from high-poly or AI-generated meshes
  • Portfolio showing leather goods, footwear or hard-surface product models
