What you'll be doing

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Guide in maintaining a prepared environment that fosters independence, discovery, and respect. You will play a crucial role in observing student progress, managing classroom flow, and ensuring that the Montessori "grace and courtesy" principles are upheld daily.

Key Responsibilities

1. Classroom & Environment Management

The Prepared Environment: Ensure Montessori materials are complete, clean, and meticulously organized on the shelves.

Material Maintenance: Identify broken or missing pieces and assist in creating new "works" as directed by the Lead Teacher.

Safety & Hygiene: Maintain a sterilized and safe environment, assisting children with handwashing, snack prep, and "Practical Life" activities (e.g., table scrubbing, plant watering).

2. Student Support & Observation

Individual Guidance: Support children in selecting and completing "jobs" they have already been presented with by the Lead Teacher.

Observation: Keep detailed notes on child behavior and engagement to assist the Lead Teacher in planning future lessons.

Redirection: Use positive, gentle redirection to guide children back to purposeful work without disrupting the "concentration flow" of the room.

3. Social & Emotional Development

Grace and Courtesy: Model polite communication, quiet movement, and respectful conflict resolution.

Independence: Resist the urge to do tasks for the child; instead, provide the minimum assistance necessary for them to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Upkeep: Ensure all Montessori materials (Sensorial, Practical Life, Math, and Language) are complete and placed in their correct order on the shelves.

Supervision: Monitor children during "Work Cycles," ensuring they use materials respectfully and stay focused on their chosen tasks.

Practical Life Support: Assist children with daily life skills such as buttoning coats, pouring water, cleaning spills, and preparing healthy snacks.

Observation: Assist the Lead Teacher by discreetly noting which materials a child is drawn to and reporting any social or behavioral patterns.

Classroom Flow: Help manage transitions (moving from work time to circle time or outdoor play) using a soft voice and gentle guidance.
