Lab Analyst (Microbiology)

As a Biological Science Technician (Genetics) you will perform the following duties:

• Prepare laboratory solutions, extract DNA from samples
• Perform data collection and compilation as part of larger complex studies, and assist fish biologists with statistical analysis of data.
• Prepare tabular and graphic data and paragraph descriptions of laboratory methods for use in scientific reports and papers.
• Maintain laboratory equipment such that laboratory equipment and lab area remain clean following established safety protocols.
• Assist in maintaining sample repository for tissue samples and DNA
• Train students, volunteers, and visiting scientists in laboratory methods and techniques.

If selected at the GS-06 grade level, you will perform the same kind of duties as described above, but under closer supervision and training will be provided for progression towards the full performance level.

Physical Demands:
The majority of work is performed in a laboratory requiring walking, sitting, or standing for long periods of time. Infrequent field work may require physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky terrain carrying heavy equipment.

Work Environment:
The majority of the work is performed in a laboratory and office setting, which includes the handling of toxic chemicals, operation of laboratory equipment, and adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
